Fighting corruption – learning from our neighbours
4 dec. 2013 - Samoa Observer.

Is Samoa corrupt?

Short answer: no.

For the whole country to be written off as corrupt, the problems would have to be much bigger, and much more pervasive – health, education and other systems near collapse.

Does Samoa suffer from corruption?

Like every other country in the world, yes it does.

Ongoing revelations about millions of dollars in missing money, conflicts of interest between powerful politicians and their business mates, and a continued breakdown of proper procedure within the police and other bodies raise serious concerns about corruption.

Fighting corruption does not have to be faced alone. We can learn valuable lessons from our neighbours and trading partners.
