Samoa 7s addressing discipline issues ahead of Oceania and Gold Coast 7s tournaments
17 sept. 2013 - ur7s. com.

Patrick Fa’apale is going to be pushed harder than usual at Samoa 7s training over the coming few days.

Already suspended for two weeks for a retaliatory punch in the Pacific Mini Games semis against Tonga, the Manu Samoa 7s player has an additional penalty lined up against him.

"He’s going to be running alot of 200 metres today,” said coach Viliamu Punivalu this morning.

Back home with the gold medal over the weekend the team assembles for training at Apia Park late afternoon today. Punivalu said it was silly of Fa’apale to have retaliated because he was red carded and it could have cost the game. He was glad the suspension didn’t occur at an IRB tournament.

Fa’apale faced a six-week suspension but this was reduced to two weeks when it was judged by the judiciary that his first reaction was to push with open palms an opponent away.

“The Tongan punched first,” said Punivalu.
